Company History

Industrialization in the valleys surrounding Remscheid began in the 16th and 17th century. At the time, creeks were dammed and hydraulic power was utilized to operate water hammers and grinding mills. The water hammer remained in operation until the mid 19th century, replaced by a small factory building or "Hüttenhammer".

Around 1870, Carl Sülberg (picture) founded his own company under the same name and leased the "Hüttenhammer". He forged various steel products for the domestic hand-tool industry. In 1891, installation of a steam engine provided an alternative source of energy and power. Nearing the turn of 19th century further expansion in the "Hüttenhammer" was not possible. For that reason, a building at the present location was erected, the expanded new production facility went into operation in 1898. This family owned company has operated from the same location for 5 generations.
